Strands

The strands provide all the tensile strength of a fiber core rope and over 90% of the strength of a typical 6-strand wire rope with an independent wire rope core. They are the most simple element of ropes.
Characteristics like fatigue resistance and resistance to abrasion are directly affected by the design of strands.
In most strands with two or more layers of wires, inner layers support outer layers in such a manner that all wires may slide and adjust freely when the rope bends.

Wire rope

Wire rope classifications and features
The different possible strands lay around a core to form a wire rope.
Wire rope is identified not only by its component parts, but also by its own construction, i.e., by the way the wires have been laid to form strands, and by the way the strands have been laid around the core.
Consequently, lay has three different meanings in ropes design.
The first two meanings of “lay” are descriptive of the wire and strand positions in the rope. The third meaning is a length measurement used in manufacturing and inspection.

Coated Ropes

All different strand and ropes could be coated with plastic. The use of polymeric resin is commonly applied when strong chemical resistance is needed, particularly against acids and bases.
The correct choice of plastic depends mainly by 3 factors:

  • Working temperature
  • Chemical fluids or gases interested
  • Chemical contact amount of time

Swaged Ropes

These ropes offer higher strength than standard ropes of the same diameter while providing greater resistance to scrubbing and similar surface wear.
During manufacture, the rope is swaged to produce a compact cross-section with minimum voids and greater surface area.
Moreover, minimum tolerances are guaranteed  (±0.1mm).
